Volunteering

Volunteer outside in your community to help people and nature thrive - no experience required, everyone is welcome and valued. Travel expenses paid.

We are looking for help maintaining our community green sites around Bury St Edmunds.

Maintaining and creating outdoor green spaces gives the community a place to grow food, interact with nature, relax and socialise. Volunteering outside is a safe and fun way to meet new people.

Volunteering with us you will support the environment through biodiverse planting, creating wildlife habitats, organic and sustainable practises such as permaculture techniques.

Ongoing practical support and training will be provided where you will learn many useful horticultural skills which can be applied to your own gardens or horticultural workplaces.

You will be a valued member of the Greener Growth team and play an important role in bringing your community together, making it a more beautiful, environmentally friendly and greener place to be.

There is a wide range of tasks available, no previous experience is required and people of all abilities and ages are welcome.

  • Pruning
  • Planting - trees, fruit and vegetables and ornamental plants
  • Seed sowing
  • Weeding, watering and maintaining raised beds
  •  Creating wildflower areas
  • Maintaining wildlife habitat havens e.g insect hotels, bird, and bat boxes
  • Conservation

We plan to arrange events to thank our volunteers and to bring the community together , such as BBQ’s in the summer.

Our sites include a memorial orchard, raised vegetable and flower beds and habitats for wildlife. More information on our sites can be found in the interactive map below.
