Winter and early Spring 2015 saw Silver Road Community Centre & grounds get a Greener Growth makeover. There was little growing through the gravel that covered all the front and side gardens. The outside view of the centre did not reflect all the good things that had begun happening inside, serving the surrounding community. The Community Centre team loved the idea of our live willow “fedge” to create immediate green architecture and a natural perimeter for the garden for all to see. We then created raised bed planters to line each of the entrances leading to the doors and a stepped feature bed to plant in layers for maximum impact.
The courtyard garden at the back was tidied up and timber was used to section off the growing areas, with vertical hanging planters to cover some of the wall spaces. The growing areas were kept low for toddlers attending the nursery to enjoy planting up & playing with.
The impact was instant and we got lots of comments from passers-by as we installed these gardens!
